Shanghai Engineering Research Center for Hydrogen Energy Utilization
The Shanghai Engineering Research Center for Hydrogen Energy Utilization began its establishment in October 2012. Approved by the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality, it is a municipal engineering research center hosted by Shanghai Sunwise Energy Systems Co., Ltd. Its specialist field is hydrogen utilization. The Center develops platforms for technology research and industrialization services, public education and talent development, helping turn key components and technologies into practical engineering applications and advancing the hydrogen and fuel cell vehicle industries.
The Center is committed to advancing hydrogen utilization in China, supporting the domestic industry and narrowing the gap with international developments.
Organization
The Center operates under the responsibility of its director. Its central office comprises the director and deputy director. Five functional units cover on-board hydrogen supply research, hydrogen infrastructure research, prototype development, demonstration activities, and projects and research (identified as the Project and Information Center in the source organization chart). An expert technical committee brings together distinguished scholars and specialists from China and abroad to advise its work.
Operating model
The Center's principal functions are research, prototype development, demonstration and outreach. Together with its host organization and Tongji University, it forms a core industry–university–research platform. Technical support from Tongji and industrialization support from Sunwise enable research results to move rapidly into applications. The platform also cooperates with automotive companies, gas suppliers, fuel cell businesses and research institutes through technical collaboration and technology transfer, creating a wider partnership network to advance the hydrogen industry. The source operating model also connects universities, government, research institutes and testing organizations with hydrogen suppliers, automotive businesses, fuel cell companies and key equipment manufacturers. Its development cycle links research, prototype construction, testing and demonstration.
