The award-winning project, Research and Application of Key Technologies for High-Pressure Hydrogen Refueling and Storage, was jointly completed by Sunwise, East China University of Science and Technology, Beijing Tianhai Hydrogen Energy Equipment Co., Ltd., and Shandong Guochuang Fuel Cell Technology Innovation Center. It addressed fast refueling and safe storage through three core technology and equipment systems: efficient, highly reliable on-board hydrogen storage integration; rapid, safe high-pressure refueling with highly integrated equipment; and safety protection throughout refueling with intelligent station control. The project achieved hydrogen metering accuracy of ±1%, with dual calibration for the vehicle and station, reaching international performance levels. At 70 MPa, the maximum refueling rate exceeded 7.2 kg/min while in-cylinder temperature remained at or below 70°C. The on-board hydrogen safety management system increased whole-vehicle hydrogen leakage diagnosis accuracy to more than 99.9%. These technologies address limitations in efficiency, complex safety management and low equipment integration, improving the safety, stability and performance of hydrogen refueling and storage systems and supporting wider commercial deployment.

The award recognizes Sunwise’s long-standing commitment to hydrogen and independent innovation, and encourages further progress. The company will continue focusing on advanced technologies and key areas of the hydrogen industry, strengthening research and commercialization to support high-quality, sustainable development.

Sunwise’s work in hydrogen began with the national 863 Program project on high-pressure hydrogen refueling stations and supply technologies for fuel cell vehicles. Since its establishment in 2004, it has focused on high-pressure hydrogen R&D and applications. It has developed key technologies for hydrogen supply and refueling and commercialized products including on-board hydrogen systems, integrated 35 MPa and 70 MPa cylinder valves, 35 MPa and 70 MPa hydrogen dispensers, mobile hydrogen refueling vehicles and high-pressure hydrogen cycling test systems.
